This appears to be an adult male. From northeast Alaska. This shot was taken at our first campsite on the coastal plain after leaving the Brooks range. We named this campsite Whimbrel ridge after several displaying Whimbrels that were on a nearby ridge. There was a small cliff near this area that had an active Rough-legged Hawk nest. In the morning over this ridge we saw Rough-legged Hawk, Northern Harrier, Short-eared Owl and Long-tailed Jaeger. This area coming out of the mountains was also our most intense area of rapids on the river. The other shot is me emptying water out of my boots near a large slab of ice... f/9.0, iso 800, 1/1600, exp comp plus one and one-third.
