Here are Josh and Jake with Jake doing his Erthal imitation. This is at the bed and breakfast we stayed at in Fairbanks. It was relatively expensive and just had cereal for breakfast. The woman in charge was very nice but for some reason thoughts of the movie "Misery" with Catherine Bates went through our minds. We had spent 2 nights there and were now getting ready to head to the Hulahula. We had left Chicago at 6pm and gotten into Fairbanks at midnight local time (3am Chicago time). The next day we walked around town, had our orientation meeting late that afternoon where we got our dry bags and raingear and met our guides. We went back and packed up our gear then had supper and a great local Thai restaurant. This is the following morning. We went to the Fairbanks airport where we flew north, making brief stops at Fort Yukon and Arctic Village before landing at the grassy airstrip on the northern slopes of the Brooks range along the Hulahula River. Here we met Arctic Andy who was camping out by himself for 5 days in between leading rafting trips. Our raft met us there after being airlifted from Kaktovik having just finished a previous trip. (That trip left about 12 days before ours and barely squeezed though the ice at one spot in the river). We got our raft packed up and moved on down the river a short ways to set up our first camp.....
