Collared Falconet (Microbierax caerulescens)
Collared Falconet (Microbierax caerulescens)
Photo description
The Collared Falconet is among the smallest of all birds of prey, at 15cm - 18 cm. In falcon fashion, the falconets capture their food in the air, only for these small birds they are catching large flying insects rather than birds. Photographed by Nancy Bell in the dry dipterocarp forest in northern Thailand. Canon 20D, Canon 300mm F4 L IS lens, 1.4 teleconverter, handheld ISO 400, 1/1250, F5.6, -1/3 exp. comp.
