Just got back from a 10 day trip to Sacha Lodge in Ecuador. This is a small comfortable lodge with excellent local food in the lower Amazon basin of eastern Ecuador. Getting there involves flying into Quito and from there a short 40 minute flight to Coca. Quito is a city of 2 million people in the Andes at an elevation of 9300 feet. This is the second highest capital city after La Paz, Bolivia which is at 11,800 feet. Quito is 15 miles south of the equator. From Coca you take a 2 and a half hour ride down the Rio Napa to Sacha in a motorized canoe. From there there is still a half hour walk and a 20 minute non-motorized canoe ride to the actual lodge. The lodge is most famous for its canopy towers which rise about 40-45 meters. One is connected right to a large Kapok tree and the other overlooks the rainforest. This bird flew up close to the top of an observation tower. f/6.3, iso 1600, exp comp minus one, 1/400
