From along the Rio Napo, Ecuador. Boreal migrants occur in tropics approximately October-March, austral migrants approximately late April-August. Northern races declined to almost extinction, but following intensive captive-breeding programmes have now recuperated spectacularly. Winter ranges of the 4 races very poorly known.
