Green Backed Heron - Bird photography and identification
Greater Ani (Crotophaga major)
Greater Ani (Crotophaga major)
Photo description
Much larger than other anis and has bright yellow eyes. Anis are members of the Cuckoo family but are the antithesis of the idea of cuckoos as brood-parasites, for they not only construct nests and rear their own young, but brooding and rearing are communal efforts, with young from one brood assisting their parents rear the next. Several females lay in the same nest, and all those involved rear the family together. (Birds of N. South America, Restall) f/6.3, iso 1600, exp comp minus one, 1/500.
