Accipiters
Accipiters
Photo description
This comparison shows some of the morphologic differences such as the uneven tail bands on the Northern Goshawk (left) but not the size differences. Northern Goshawk 21 inches, Sharp-shinned Hawk (center) 11 inches and Cooper's Hawk 16 inches. There are also male/female differences in size and a female sharpie can be close in size to a male cooper's. The goshawk was photographed in Colorado by BB Hahn, the sharpie in Iowa by Kent Nickell and the cooper's in Wisconsin by Mike McDowell
