Green Backed Heron - Bird photography and identification
Tennessee Warbler (Vermivora peregrina)
Tennessee Warbler (Vermivora peregrina)
Photo description
Fall plumage. A flock of Tennessees were passing through last night. Peregrina means "wanderer". Alexander Skutch thought this warbler would be better named "Coffee Warbler" because it spends so much time in coffee plantations in its wintering grounds. In its nesting grounds it has been estimated that some areas may have up to 610 pairs/km2 of this species during spruce budworm outbreaks in Ontario's boreal forests. Fall birds may be confused with the Pine, Orange-crowned, female Cerulean, female Yellow Warbler, Philadelphia Vireo, and Warbling Vireo. Reference: Warblers of the Great Lakes Region and Eastern North America by Chris Earley (2003). At first I thought I may have a Philadelphia Vireo here because of the yellowish wash on the throat but this has a warbler bill among other things.
