Green Backed Heron - Bird photography and identification
Tody Motmot (Hylomanes momotula)
Tody Motmot (Hylomanes momotula)
Photo description
This bird proved elusive for us during our week in Belize. I saw this one with the help of an excellent and stealthy local guide, Gilberto, who got me on it a half hour before our bus left Chan Chich lodge for the Gallon Jug airstrip to catch our 16 seater plane to Belize City. This bird frequents shady understory of moist evergreen forest especially along dark ravines. It perches quietly about eye level sallying out to pluck insects, spiders, and snails from vegetation. It also catches butterflies and dragonflies in flight. iso 1600, 1/40, f/7.1, exp comp minus one third. Canon 20D/100-400IS
