Green Backed Heron - Bird photography and identification
Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum)
Palm Tanager (Thraupis palmarum)
Photo description
Photographed in the rain-cloud forest located in Cinchona, Costa Rica's central mountain range near the San Fernando waterfall. Most of my photos from this location were taken at a 'photographers paradise', a small remote mountain cafe with a balcony that overlooked a large 'backyard' abutting a large tract of rainforest. There were feeding stations set up and a number of trees and bushes that the birds used as staging areas. A few hours here one morning yielded Palm, Blue-gray, Passerini's, Silver-throated, Golden-hooded, Summer, and Crimson-collared Tanagers, Common Bush-Tanager, Red-legged Honeycreeper, Clay-colored Robin, Green Thorntail, Green-crowned Brilliant, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, Scaly-breasted Hummingbird, Violet Sabrewing, Variable Seedeater, White-naped Brush-Finch, Buff-throated Saltator, Black-cowled Oriole, Emerald Toucanet, and Red-headed and Prong-billed Barbet.
