This juvenile bird was in a shade grown coffee plantation near Gallon Jug, Belize which is inland near the Guatemalan border. Common Black-Hawks (Buteogallus anthracinus) are also in Belize but they are more common along the coast and the Great Black-Hawk more common inland. The juvenile Great Black-Hawk lacks the blackish malar stripe of the juvenile common.
