The 'Yigüirro' (Turdus grayi) was designated National Bird of Costa Rica on November, 1976. It brings good luck by starting to sing at the start of the rainy season and represents the fertility of the earth. It is a friendly and peaceful bird and not afraid of humans, however, it protects its brood.
