Unlike the Cooper's Hawk (Accipiter cooperi) which is named after William Cooper (1798-1864) US zoologist, collector, conchologist and author this bird is named after J.G. Cooper (1830-1902) US ornithologist. Range: SW Mexico to Costa Rica. From La Ensenada ranch, Costa Rica.
