The long slender, sharp-pointed bill, which with its iridescent plumage gives the bird the aspect of an overgrown hummingbird. (In fact I was saying I couldn't find this bird listed as a hummingbird when someone told me it's not a hummingbird) It's interesting how birds can have specific habitats and behaviors. Alexander Skutch describes this one as 'rests on horizontal perch with jauntily uptilted bill'. Takes beetles, bees, butterflies, and dragonflies. This is a female with the buff throat.
