The Western Flycatcher was split into Pacific-slope and Cordilleran (Empidonax occidentalis) which are very similar in looks and voice. These species are also very similar to the Yellow-bellied (Empidonax flaviventris) the eyering on the 'Westerns' is typically narrow at the top and extended at the rear with a 'tail'.
