The Long-billed Curlew(Numenius americanus), left, is our largest sandpiper at 23 inches. The Whimbrel(Numenius phaeopus) comes in at 17.5. LBCU from Nebraska 5/02 and WHIM from Costa Rica 2/05.

The Long-billed Curlew shot was taken at Crescent Lake National Wildlilfe Refuge in the western Nebraska panhandle.
